In 2008 the Empresa Municipal de la Vivienda de Sevilla (EMVISESA - Sevilla Municipal Social Housing Company) launched an architectural competition to design 24 council flats on the southern outskirts of Seville.
Plot CJ1 is located at the extreme end of a conglomeration of new residential buildings. In our proposal we opened up the inner courtyard to the street and public areas to allow for continuity and communication between the various residential blocks.
The patio gives access to a lobby that connects to the two vertical circulation areas (stairs and lifts). From these stairwells covered galleries on the sides of the construction provide access to the apartments on each floor. We proposed a typological organization of the apartments positioning the bedrooms and living rooms along the exterior perimeter of the building. Meanwhile, we positioned the amenities (kitchen, drying area and bathrooms) along the inner perimeter of the courtyard.
